Figurative

Figurative art describes any form of modern art with references to the real world particularly the human figure. After the second world war figuration can be tracked through the works of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. Sometimes this type of art is also classed as modern realism representing people in a very realistic manner. Modern Realism is very evident in Jo Beer’s work with immense attention to detail in her drawing and oil paintings every strand of hair can be seen, and the characters of each person come alive.

This section covers the work of Irene tone. These figures are semi abstract in style and can be recognised as a figure, cat or still life but the drawing is very minimalistic, and the colour tones are either monochrome or reduced palette of subtle tones in browns, black, white and beige. They are highly collectable and look wonderful in a modern contemporary interior
