Artist Jo Beer
Painter
Figurative
Biography
I am based in Cornwall, UK. I was taught at ‘ A’ Level by Newlyn School Artist Vincent Wilson . My work has self developed since. My work is predominantly figurative
The wonderful about people is there is no such thing as an ordinary person…. everyone is extraordinary in their own way . I love the quirks that make someone stand out from the next person . I love details, be it fabrics, patterns, styles, scars or blemishes ,folds, creases and skin tones .
I paint with oils as they have wonderful silky fluidity that suit my work . I like to use fairly broad brush strokes and keep areas of tone defined rather than blended .it seems more descriptive , fresh and expressive .
I have twice featured on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year with one of my images ( not pretty but pretty honest ) being selected with a huge installation of a portrait of the Mona Lisa over Clapham Common , London following series one , with Parminder Nagra choosing to take home my portrait of her in the second series .
I have exhibited extensively in the South West both with Solo Exhibitions and with Collectives . As well as producing work to sell through galleries, I also regularly paint private commissions and always pleased to discuss. requests and ideas.
