Description: This is a beautiful, spontaneous linear drawing. It is worked with black ink contrasted on a white background. In addition, there is a minimal shading of light grey graphite pencil marks. Josephine used layers of lines to build an abstract figure composition. She lays in the lines quickly to music, in the moment, as the model changes her dance moves. The artist’s style is expressive and gestural. There is an organic quality to this artwork, because Josephine she has achieved a feeling of natural flowing movement.
Inspiration: The inspiration for Ink Brush Drawing 4 comes from the female model performing in a drawing group situation. There is drama and energy in the scene because the model moves to the music. Also there are colourful props, although black, white and grey are considered by the artist to be emotionally expressive colours for her brush drawings.
Art Practice: Words from Josephine: “I have developed my art practice during many years of experimental painting and figure drawing. Because of this hard work, I own a free spirit to express my emotions in a natural way – bold, innovative, dynamic and spontaneous. I am happy to create and enjoy the process. I feel lucky and grateful to be able to do this.
Drawn from the life model at a Friday Dynamic Drawing session, Byron Bay Australia.
