Description: I take lines, shapes and movements from the life model. With these elements, I build a dynamic layered figure composition. For my figure drawing artwork, I love to work quickly to music. This is because it helps me forget daily concerns. My imagination takes over and I can express my emotions in a natural way. This is vital to the outcome in my figure work. The basic lines and shapes must be laid down spontaneously, and in the moment. I usually finish the piece in my studio.
Inspiration: The inspiration for my figure drawings comes from the life model and the ambience of the venue.
Influences: I am strongly influenced by the body, music, dance and the drama of the scene. Colours are very important to me as a means of expression in themselves. For instance, I consider the drama of black and white contrasts a very strong means of expression. The weather outside is a factor also because bright sunshine and clear blue sky are so emotionally positive and give a tremendous lift to the start of drawing day.
Drawn from the life model during a Friday morning Dynamic Drawing session, at Byron Bay Australia.
