The Yellowhammer (a bird portrait)
Description :
An original artwork oil painting of the Yellowhammer bird by Artist Steffan Johnson
Inspiration
This all began with a 50 p calendar that my son had from ‘ The Works’. Using the calendars’ image and my style I fused together this portrait of the Yellowhammer.
The Yellowhammer is a fascinating bird, which gets brighter each moult its feathers goes through, which happens predominantly during their mating season. Its striking yellow and brown plumage really make this bird stand out.
Further information
Male yellowhammers are unmistakeable with a bright yellow head and underparts, brown back streaked with black, and chestnut rump. In flight it shows white outer tail feathers. They are often seen perched on top of a hedge or bush, singing.
Its recent population decline make it a Red List species.
